Worship Band: Sixteen Cities

We are excited to welcome back Sixteen Cities ! T heir story and band philosophy fit so well with the heart of our trip! Without any intention of being a Christian rock band, they started meeting at their high school each week, in an attempt to reach their friends for Christ.  They reached hundreds of students on their campus and saw radical transformation at their school as a result of reaching out. It wasn’t long before the band knew they were called to use music as a way to reach their generation. “It is our desire to be a band of servants, humbly offering our gifts and talents to reach this world for Christ. We know we’re just a bunch of normal guys, living each day in the grip of God’s grace,” says front man Josiah Warneking.  Hear their or watch their to get to know them better.

Speaker: Alex Hershey, The Branches UMC. Alex leads a brand new church called The Branches, in Plainfield, Indiana, which has only just launched in December 2013. He has been a student pastor in the hills of Kentucky, an associate and youth pastor in Monticello, IN, and a head pastor in Union City, IN. He has a heart for camping ministry and missions. Alex Hershey is a husband, father of Elliott & Audrey, lover of music and sports and all things Cardinals baseball. Most of all, he is a follower of Jesus Christ and has a deep desire that all people come to know the awesome love of God.

Question…. Do the worship times, devos, and small groups incorporate at one or several points an invitation to give one’s life to Jesus? My youth team needs to know more before we commit. I would be grateful for a phone call. Not sure my phone number should be in a comment?

  2. Christin Nevins

I have a very interested group of middle schoolers who are not affiliated with a UM youth group. How can we sign up and participate? Thanks!

  3. An adult from our church or parent needs to be with our kids we send, correct? I wasn’t clear if the adult mentioned in the “adult/child ratio” was an adult provided by you or if this was a trip was one where adults can attend as well. Thanks for any clarification!

      Hi Dana,
Yes! An adult from your church must attend with youth from your congregation. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help your group in any way. Thanks! -Helene ([email protected])

  4. Larry Schmoekel

Just curious, how many youth are usually involved in this project? It sounds like from the information that each group needs to provide an adult for every 5 students? What if a group is mixed, would one male and one femaled adult be reuired?

    • inumcconnect

Hi Larry! Yes, 1 adult per 5 students. If your group is mixed, one male and one female leader must attend. So, if you have a mixed group of 5 students, 1 adult male and 1 adult female must attend. Last year, churches with smaller groups partnered with churches in their area to help make this possible. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help your group in any way! Thanks! -Helene ([email protected])

  5. Linda Beall

Is there a check in time on Sunday, July 19th?

Also, would you be able to send a packing list so we can get it to our youth?

    Thanks for everything, Helene!

    • inumcconnect

      Hi Linda!
The packing list link is now fixed. Sorry about that!
Check in time is between 4-6 on Sunday at Schwitzer Hall.
      See you soon!

  6. Christine Kindlesparger

I can’t seem to pull up the packing list or print it.

  7. Christine Kindlesparger

Will we get any devo materials while there or should we bring our own?

    • inumcconnect

We will provide devo materials. Morning devotions are with the whole group.
